WARNING If you have NOT read the book yet, it's not advised to read this page.  It may contain spoilers.

The Dakota was built from about 1880 through 1884 so it wasn't actually complete in time to really be set in Jack Finney's book setting of 1882, but that is an artistic license that was taken due to the author's fascination with the building, which is wholeheartedly understandable.

You can learn a lot about the Dakota building online, so I don't really need to re-invent the wheel here.  I did particularly like this old photo of it though, which you can purchase prints of in various sizes from NYC Vintage Images.

You can find a general building floorplan online pretty easy but interior shots are REALLY hard to find.  Took me ages to find these examples of the Dakota from the inside, as well as an apartment floorplan that is absolute perfection with flow and practicality to spare.  Love it.
