Kayaking out to Jimmy Chickens' Rock GC12YKG

Offering a kayak to one geocacher at a time only, which I will accompany in a second kayak out to the approximate location as called for in the cache description.  Ideal conditions include the tide being in, the water being calm, the wind being light and the sun being out.  If conditions aren't favorable at launch, the launch will likely not be happening and will need to be rescheduled.

Required Release Waiver

Print out the required Release Waiver, sign and bring it with you, along with ID for proof of age/residence.

Park on North side of Windsor between Newport & Beach  at  N 48° 25.430 W 123° 18.370

What to Bring

Filled out Release Waiver and ID
Loose fitting clothes appropriate to weather conditions
Extra pair of shoes/socks in case your feet get wet
Pants that roll up in case your feet get wet
Sunglasses might help with the reflection/eye squinting
Sunscreen and SPF lip balm are your buddies
Some like to wear a tight fitting hat with a nice brim
Some like to wear sport/bike gloves to protect their hands
Some like to wear neoprene (booties or wetsuit) for warmth
Ziplock or water-resistant container for your wallet/cellphone/camera
A fanny pack type bag is a good place to stow your stuff (long strap/not too big)
You may want to pack a lunch or bring a water bottle

Planned Route

Yes, I've read the logs complaining about strong currents, etc.  Look - I have kayaked this bay dozens of times and the route in the photo above doesn't have any current.  Launching from the windward side of the marina is a mistake anyone would make if they're not familiar with the bay waters and/or if they need to park at the marina I guess.  For me, the better choice is the tip of Queen's Park on the leeward side of the marina, and I happen to have easy access to it.

Green days are generally off limits. the ocean's cold temperature is enough of a threat without pushing it by tempting it during the colder months.   During the busy season you can check here for available dates or scheduling changes.
