2003 Montes Cabernet Sauvignon This is an award winning wine from
Chile, so I thought it might be nice to give it a try, but I'm having a slightly
hard time opening it because I'm so tempted to lay it down for a little nap
after reading up on it a bit. Update - 2 months was all I could stand as some 2"
thick steaks talked me into opening this wondrous bottle from the Colchagua
Valley of Chile. Awesome dark berries on the nose, so velvet with very sexy
mouthfeel. Totally balanced tannins and *my weakness* terroir and black
pepper in plentiful supply. Aged in American oak for added complexity as opposed to added flavor,
which is sometimes done (or even overdone.) Really a sweet bottle of wine, too
bad there's no bottles available around me. We did manage to snarf a few before the supply ran out,
but we failed to actually save any. We did go back with the brave "let's
buy every bottle they've got" plan, but that's the day we found out our love had
walked out on us for good. Again, SO velvet on the approach and so wonderfully peppery on the
luscious long finish. Sadly the bracket vintages are not really even close... Like
dating the twin of a once true love who broke your heart... close and
interesting, but just not the same. Ah, the love affair was brief but oh
so unforgettable. Our first true
love I'd say. |
