On the left here we see Mark within an hour of having the
keys in his hands, already hard at work filling holes! Let the
pic on the right be a warning to you not to watch too much HGTV!
Mark actually tore out the little wall/door to the hallway you see
behind him on the pic on the right with nothing more than a
screwdriver in the way of tools, thus proving my theory that he
watches too much Holmes on Homes (not to mention MacGyver!)
Here on the left you can see the yellow stripes wallpaper and old
B&W flooring. On the right the wallpaper has been removed...
in spite of the fact that we believe it was applied with super glue
and/or epoxy.
Before/during pics... Here the first coat of fresh paint is applied
and the flooring is replaced to something that matches the new color
scheme.
Here's the before/during pics for the den. We were REALLY
tired of stripping wallpaper by the time we got to the den, so we took
a chance and painted right over the grass paper on one wall. It
worked out perfectly fine as it was
apparently stuck on there with the same gusto the wallpaper everywhere else had
been. To make this room really special I'm planing on putting
this mural on the
closet doors in the near future.
Before pics for bedroom and main bathroom. There's a half
bath in the bedroom which we just can't get around to doing anything
about at this time, but it's day will come.
Here's my sweetie all dusty... guess he'll look pretty cute with
gray hair! On the right you can see how I got all the colors to
coordinate in the new color scheme.
We chose a light brown for the living & dining rooms, a mossy green
for the den and a faded yellow for the bedroom. Fresh coat of
white on all ceilings really freshened them up. Creamy white
to match kitchen counters also served well to offset pink in bath.
Now don't get me wrong, pink is my very favorite color but I've
never seen non-garish pink towels, so it had to be done.
To make color scheme swatches, get a carpet sample ahead of
time so you can paint before the carpet is installed. Take a
digital pic of your new carpet
and open it up in a graphics program. Then use
your eye dropper tool to pick out some colors and turn them into
chips. Then all of your rooms can be different colors but still
go together well and match your carpeting. Just print it out on
nice shiny photo paper and take it to the paint store.
As pure white on the cabinets would have made the kitchen counters
look bad, we color-matched the counter for a nice creamy white color
that will make everything look fresher.
All moldings and trim are very plain and frankly ugly, which means
they get painted to blend in, not to stand out!
We went with combinations of halogen and color balanced fluorescent
lighting in kitchen and bathrooms. Here's a peek at the
new kitchen and main
bathroom fixtures.
We were going to put in wood laminate flooring - this idea got axed
early as I just couldn't bring myself to do "the hottest trend in home
decorating this year" because it's just too noisy and not as
comfortable or cozy and I would have hated it! Fads aside,
you've got to do what makes you happy!
Considering saving up to replace all light switches to the more modern
looking rocker style. (Been slowly doing this already)
Need to replace all the drawer handles and knobs in kitchen, bath and
closet doors throughout. Still contemplating style choices available.
It's very hard to choose!
Patio plans? My beloved green astroturf is in!
I know... I'm strange, what can I say I love that stuff.
Besides, it keeps dust & dirt off my feet so I don't track it inside
going in and out. Would like to get a hammock as there's
plenty of room for it, but so far only have a high table and chairs
set.
